Chess -- Volunteers Needed!
- This year we secured a grant from ChessKid.com to provide free video lessons, lesson plans, and chess games to students. We were also granted chess sets from US Chess Trust. We now need volunteers to help run it! No prior chess experience necessary -- all lessons are on the app!
- Last year chess club was a hit! Can be open to 1st - 5th graders of all skill levels.
- We suggest Mondays in November, but it's all based on volunteer availability.
- Please email Virginia if interested, or know someone who is!
- This program designed to get kids moving has free coach training, activity ideas, and funding for programs!
- Sports Backers will provide coaching support, including a 2-hour new coach clinic (September 12), a coach kickoff the following week, and resources including ideas for activities.
- They provide mini-grants to be used for equipment, water, snacks, end of season parties, etc. They will pay for RPS buses to the end of season races if needed, buy sneakers, and pay for all race entries. They will order team t-shirts free of cost.
- Fall (early October – December 14) and Spring seasons, each culminating in an event:
- December 14 Twilight Run
- Spring 10K Mini, at Ukrop’s 10 K
- Aiming for grades 2-5, meeting 1-2X/week, but it's a flexible program.
- We just need volunteers to make it happen! You do NOT need to be a runner or athlete to volunteer!
- If you're interested in volunteering, please email Virginia for more information!
